The Computer - a new, attractive, enormous, book

This new book is quite pricey but looks very attractive and gets a good write-up here.

Parenthetically, you’ll see front and centre on the cover a poster for 1973’s Westworld. I learnt recently that the film features a little PDP-15 code, code which was used in the visual effects - it’s an early example of CGI in the cinema. Links to further reading within.

The film screenshots has made the rounds several times, with no firm conclusion. But looking at it again I see the LLS mnemonic which is a PDP-4/7/9/15 instruction “long left shift” for the Extended Arithmetic Element.
