Movement Systems Drum Computer MCS (Eurythmics)

Not sure if this is a real “computer”, at least it looks like one. I first found it on pinterest.
Most famous in Eurythmics clip Sweet Dreams

There’s certainly a computer inside!

The Nascom 2 computer was used as the controller.

Funny you should mention the MCS, I’m recreating the MK2 after tracking down schematics and EPROM images from the designer Dave Goodway. It’s taken about 4 years to get the info and hope to have something built by the end of this year.

Thanks for the walkthrough of your folder! It’d be great to see updates as you make progress.

Just to note I found an article about the mk1, which is the model Dave Stewart seems to be using, according to the images:

Yes, the Mk1 is what was used in the Eurythmics video. There is only one of that model left, as they were all recalled and cannibalised for parts to be replaced by the more sturdy Mk2. The only surviving one was the one owned by Dave Stewart, who was using it for the video.
I now have a copy of that issue of Electronics and Music Maker Magazine in my folder, bought from a seller in Australia.
The hope was to have something built for the Retro Computer Festival in Cambridge in November, but the new organisers have introduced a “Gaming Theme” to the event, and it doesn’t fall under that category. Although it will play Lollipop Trainer!

Hi Stephen, really great stuff. I think I met you at SynthFestUK last year (2024)? (I’m Oli from Synth Evolution, btw!). I’d love to talk to you a bit more about the Movement Drum Computer and your project. I couldn’t work out how to contact you directly through the site here, so if you could drop me a line at via my website Contact — SYNTH EVOLUTION - that would be great. Cheers! Oli

Hi Oli,

Message sent.

All the best
Stephen
