I’m retired from a career in software research and development (including functional programming with John Backus, System R transactions and crash recovery, the Pilot operating system for the Xerox Star office automation system, and the book Elements of Programming with Alex Stepanov. Now I’m interested in the history of software, with topics like the original FORTRAN compiler, the source code for the Xerox Alto, and other programming languages such as ALGOL, LISP, Prolog, and SETL.
