While it’s true that we did use whatever we could get our hands on, it’s simply not true that we CP/M users never had DEC terminals. The simple truth is that they were quite expensive and anyway the vt100 wasn’t available until 1978 - a year or 3 after the early CP/M systems, so we made do with lesser terminals - e.g. my Northstar Horizon currently uses a Wyse-60 terminal which is DEC vt100 compatible but I remember using one in the early 80s with a DEC vt100 attached.
