The Cody Computer (modern 65C02-based open source 8-bit)

The topic of a modern equivalent to 8-bit home computers is one coming up, yet and again, – and there’s quite a number of projects and products out there.

A fairly new one is The Cody Computer, and it looks quite interesting: it’s an open source project designed and developed using open source tools. It’s designed around well-known components, like the WDC 65C02 and the matching 65C22 interface adapter, as well as the Parallax Propeller microcontroller to emulate further peripherals. While using through-hole components, the PCB is quite tiny and asks just for a handful of chips.

There is no secret made about the Cody being heavily inspired by the Commodre 8-bits, as it comes with PETSCII characters and VIC II-like graphics (including sprites) and colorful graphics. It uses its own BASIC interpreter, which also looks quite nice on cursory reading of the manual.
