I didn’t see to much about these early NEC systems around here, so wanted to report some interesting things about them:
Before Super Mario Brothers, there was the just “Mario” as a non-scrolling single-screen platformer. I came across WAV file copied, and at first they weren’t working for me. But I ended up using an older 2009 Toshiba laptop to play the WAV, and it loaded successfully on the PC-8001 Mk II original hardware.

The original 1979 NEC PC-8001 can’t run this, but that earlier system is still somewhat impressive for its time (except that I was unable to use its internal serial RS232 above 300 baud). I have another video about that here:
