Did anyone type in the magazine program listings like from DDJ or C users group when they came out.
I am sure I had partial copy of small c from the listings once, but that years and years ago.
Lots of free time and no money for software, back then.
Today I find the scanned pdf’s often too horrid even to read in places, so I wonder what true purpose of the listings were , if not for expanding one’s software base?
There was a time, I think, when DDJ sold CDs with software from the magazine listings, but I missed the moment and didn’t buy them when they were available. Just maybe someone has a copy uploaded somewhere.
Dr. Dobb’s Journal has recently issued CD ROMs with the articles and software from 1988–1997, and also offers subject-specialized CD ROMs; see http://www.ddj.com/cdrom for ordering details.
Edit: see also this page for a tantalising description
The Dr. Dobb’s Developer Library DVD-ROM Release 6 contains all of the articles and code from all the past Dr. Dobb’s CD releases, plus all articles and code from the last 14+ years of C/C++ Users Journal, nearly 10 years of articles and code from The Perl Journal, 16 years of SysAdmin Magazine and dozens (and dozens) of Podcasts on topics ranging from .NET development to Rich Internet Applications. That’s a total of over 650 issues full of vital programming tools and techniques, offered for the first time on one DVD-ROM, with one fast, cross-platform search engine.
