Hi everyone
New to the forum and pretty new to retro computers. I’ve picked up an Amstrad PC3286 untested that had been sitting in a cupboard for 15 years. It had a power supply issue which I have rectified, then it would boot to a system error which I got past once I changed the rotation of the hard drive cable on the motherboard.
Now it boots to ask for a system disk so I’ve tried some original dos 6.1 disks that come with the computer but no luck. Wasn’t sure if I need an Amstrad setup disk that I read about in some forums but that’s sounds like it’s for a 2386. It also came with multiple 3.5” floppy drives which I’ve tried.
So now I’m not sure if there is a problem with the motherboard or all the disk drives. It also has a 5.25” floppy drive but I have no disks for that.
Also having problems with the monitor screen with having little white vertical lines all over the screen but you can just make out the prompts, I’ve tried multiple monitors with the same results.
If anyone has any knowledge on this model or any advice/insight would be much appreciated. I removed the Circuit board and gave it a clean which looks good as far as I can see.
Thanks in advance
