The FROB is an ATARI 2600 #gamedev system for Apple II. Its tool FLOAD loads assembled 6502 code to be run by the 2600 via a shared memory window.

ATARI did not document the 2600. Besides the code in the manual, You had to reverse engineer other games to learn how things worked, seen here using Apple2...

It did not provide an assembler. You had to. Worst case? Hand-assemble, and use the Apple Monitor to put the code into Frob RAM, using register $C090 to control memory...

Ah, Frob ! For some reason I wrongly remebered the name as “Frog” and when the web came along I tried searching for that name but never could find it. I even started to wonder if I had imagined the whole thing.
