Christmas Challenge 2024 started (VCCC2024)

I’ve not seen this posted (here) yet, so If anyone’s interested in this years Vintage Computing Christmas Challenge (2024) then look here:

As usual don’t post code, solutions, etc. here (or anywhere) until it’s finished.

Results video scheduled for today (28 December) at 7PM CET (6PM UTC).

Here’s the YouTube link: Christmas Challenge '24 The Presentation (Logiker’s YouTube video)

I made my entry in BASIC on a C64, and I also entered a ‘fun’ submission, using the same.

I see over on the stardot.org.uk forum (Acorn machines including the BBC micro) people have already posted their code. Smaller than my effort on the C64, but BBC BASIC has some extra keywords like MOD, so the approaches used there wouldn’t work, directly, on the C64.

Thanks for the video link. There’s a great diversity of machines in use - here’s a word cloud from the video:

Sadly due to work, family and other issues I did not have time to make an entry this year. I might still have a go in a somewhat unique language I developed for a bit of fun a while back. We’ll see.

I got an email today, saying I’d won a prize (pdf edition of Komoda & Amiga Plus magazine) for one of my entries.
I’m not sure which one won the prize - I had one of the shorter C64 BASIC entries (88 bytes) but it was beaten by a few other entries using the same.

I also had my ‘snake game’ entry in the wild category, which Logiker showed in his presentation; that was also in C64 BASIC. Interestingly, it seemed slower and with more distorted sound in Logiker’s video - maybe an NTSC / PAL thing?

Congratulations! The snake was wonderful.
