Castlequest — exhumed via U.S. Copyright Office deposit

Nice little story here: Castlequest exhumed!, and continued here: Making Castlequest compilable — about how a printed Copyright Office deposit from 1981 allowed this game to be played again: Quuxplusone/Castlequest.

It’s so quaint seeing the kids today trying to understand and explain Fortran carriage control and Hollerith constants.

I could read stories like this all day. My prediction is that software archaeology, and not only that, practical software archaeology (resurrecting the ghosts of the past), is going to be a real profession.

(And I learned today of a utility I didn’t know existed, asa!)
